Daniel Wayne Good

Daniel W. Good passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006, at 57 years 1 month. His tragic death was due to crossing a flooded creek in which his truck was washed downstream and overturned trapping him in his vehicle.

He was born at South Boston,VA on Feb 8, 1949, the son of Ira and Beulah (Greider) Good, who survive. He married Susan Gingerich (John & Fanny) in Plain City, Ohio on April 18, 1977.
In addition to his wife, Susan Good, he is survived by 3 sons, Joseph David & Margaret (Kropf) of Grandin, MO, Timothy Daniel & Pearl (Weaver) of East Earl, PA, Mark Ira of Grandin, 3 daughters, Faith Elaine Martin & Anthony, and Dorcas Ann both of Grandin, MO, Miriam Rose Strite & Roland of Doniphan, MO, 3 brothers, Kenneth Good & wife Betty of Broadway, VA, Nathan Good and wife Mildred, David Good and wife JoAnne of South Boston, VA, and 2 sisters, Bonnie Moore and husband Jim, Rosanna Slabach and husband Mark, both of South Boston,Va., and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Nelson, and grandparents Oscar and Mary Greider, and Henry and Cora Good.

He was a Bishop in the Grandin Mennonite church and was active in the ministry. He was also a farmer. His close walk with God and love for people has touched many lives in the church and community. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be 5-8 pm Sunday, 3/12, and Monday, 3/13, in the Grandin Mennonite church. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m, 3/14, Tuesday, in the First Baptist Church in Doniphan. Burial will be in the Grandin Mennonite Cemetery.

I am reminded once again of the frailty of life. Daniel and I were of the same age, he being only one month older than I. I was not priviledged to spend much time with Daniel, but was blessed to know him these last 35+ years. I have come to know and love his parents and siblings well, since we fellowship within the same congregation in South Boston, Va. This is the family that reached out to a very odd looking hippe type and offered to introduce me to Jesus Christ. Along with a cousin, Janet Good, the sisters of Daniel, because of the love of Christ given to them, they brought this lost sheep to their Savior and Lord. Daniel played a part, as did the rest of the immediate family; Grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins also did their part as I came to know them and their Lord and God. I eventually chose to make their fellowship of saints mine, for their love of God and man was so strong it drew me.

Why God chooses certain doors of death to bring us into His presence is strange to my human mind. Recently, I have seen cancer, automobile accident, and now a flooded stream, take family members into eternity. I have learned it is not the manner of going to God that is of importance, but the readiness to go that is important. As weak mortals we tend to question God when situations like this occur, but we must remember that Almighty God, the creator of all we are or see around us, knows the end from the beginning; this is the essence of Faith; a trust in the person of God and His Grace that will bring us through whatever door death works through, and bring us into His glorious presence.

Today the family bade farewell, for now, to their son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle; fellow church members bade farewell, for now, to a brother in Christ, minister/Bishop; friends bade farewell to a kind helpful neighbor. As Christians, we believe that this is not the end of life, only life as we know it here. Therefore, while we do grieve, it is not without hope, but with rejoicing that, at a time appointed, we all shall pass through some portal of death and will be reunited, for eternity, in the presence of God. This is because of the Grace of God in bringing salvation to each of us that have turned away from our sin and trusted in the finished work of God's Son, Jesus Christ, for redemption.

Death is only a reminder of our sinfulness and need of salvation. This salvation is possible by the Grace of God, through the work of Jesus Christ who suffered and died for the remission of sins for all that believe on Him, turning from their sin by repentance of the sin that besets each of us. Most of us will not know the day, or moment, of our death; though some may see it coming through sickness or other means. Expect that your time will normally be sudden and be ready to face eternity; Daniel was just going to work per usual when the call came; he was ready.

2Co 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 6:1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. 2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
